My computer:Windows XP Intel pentium 4 2.4 gHz, 512 Ram ddr, LG multi-drive DVD-RW and LG standard CD-ROM
My CD-rom doesn't want to read any cd. I tought it could be the cd but I tried with another one (both data and audio) and still it didn't work so I went to device manager to see if the device driver was working properly and windows doesn't show any error there. I have a multi-drive too so I tried in that one and the same thing.... the device drivers are working and I even re-installed them.
I tried playing a game which has autorun, but the cd-rom nor the LG multi-drive recognize it.
I tried changing PIO mode to DMA mode and still it didn't work. Both multimedia devices are brand new so I don't know what to do... PLEASE HELP!!!!

well it could be a hardware problem but by chance do you have any CD emulation software? I had A program for that once and it screwed up my CD-ROM from reading any discs too (unless interserted at boot or b4 I restarted my comp, then it worked fine)

Since u r havin trouble with both drives; try doin a search under find files/folders for the file: cdrom.inf When it turns up rt clik on it and select "install" from the pop-up menu. Then retry the read processes. Let us know.

ok, I tried looking for the inf file and clicked INSTALL and the hourglass came up for a fraction of a second and then I tried the cdrom with the same results. I certainly appreciate the help and suggestions.
Prior to posting my original thread, I reformatted my 40 gb drive and reloaded xp, and norton anti-virus / internet security, my cdroms didn't work prior to reloading, but they worked fine during the rebuilding process, I was able to load xp, norton, nero, autocad 04, nikon software for my digital and then it just stopped working, it hasn't really recognized cd's that were copied from somewhere, but store bought cd seemed to work fine; now nothing.

So, now ur sayin that store bought softwr apps., games and audio cd's work fine; but befor u did the re-install of XP they din't ? I'm a bit confused on that cuz in ur 1st post u had said the LG Drive wouldn't run the game(s). ??

Just curious: How are the Optical rives config'd ? R they both placed on 2ndary IDE ? Hav u tried uninstallin them under Device Manager and then rebooting to let XP redetect
the drvs ? Might be worth a shot to try that if u hav'nt already.

Also, if that doesn't resolv anything u may just hav to try eliminating a few of ur Startup Progs at a time in the Config. Utility to see if there is an offending program that is causing this. Do u use any Anti-Spyware apps ??
