My computer will not print at all. Every time I try, from any application, the print job automatically deletes itself.

    All suggestions will be considered

    SPECIFICATIONS

    OS: Windows XP SP2
    PRINTER: HP DeskJet 3420 (USB)
    ANTIVIRUS: Symantec Client Security
    ANTISPYWARE: Spybot S&D 1.4
    FIREWALL: ZoneAlarm Pro, SpywareBlaster

I did recently install Blackshift (http://www.foon.co.uk/blackshift)

I re-installed the driver, but I am unsure if this is a hw/sw problem.

I can attach a HijackThis! file if you think it would help.

Thank you for your attention and assistance in this matter.

If that does not work , put in your HP printer install cd, use the uninstall feature, reboot, unplug the usb or turn off the printer , turn on the pc, reinstall the printer and turn on or plug in when asked by the install prog.

I tried re-installing the driver and un-installing Blackshift. Neither worked. Any other suggestions?

try system restore...go back at least aweek before the problem started...no joy...go to device manager and remove/uninstall the printer...reboot let windows "find" the new hardware and ask for the drivers

I don't have a restore point from before the printer stopped working that isn't at least 13 months old  .

Attached HijackThis! log 06/27/06 for your reading enjoyment.

Thank you for your assistance thus far.

I tried that. The stupid computer just tells me that the driver cannot be found on the machine, nor the CD. I did try to do a clean install of the driver, deleting everything to do with the printer. No luck so far.

Has anyone ever heard of a device deleting print jobs because the ink cartridges were low or empty? I think this may be the real problem, but I don't really want to splash out for new cartridges when there is a real problem.

Thank you for your assistance thus far.

a last ditch that might get a novice in trouble, has worked before for me is to go through the registry using the search and search next F3, for everything that matches the model name and company and deleteing. risky , delete the wrong item and your OS is borked

I tried clean-installing a new driver from the HP website, and nothing new happened.

I also tried deleting the HP stuff from my registry, accidentally screwed up my Firewire drive (how I did this I will never know). I re-installed the Firewire driver and she works now.

    I think I may just need a new printer. sigh :( :( :(

I've posted the log so it can be viewed easier.

Are you able to test the printer on another computer? Can you also do this?

Please go here (http://www.howtotell.com/) using Internet Explorer.
    Click on "Windows Validation Assistant"
Click on the "Validate Now" button.
Be patient while the ActiveX loads, do not click on any links.
Read the instructions on this page while it's loading. You will be prompted to install - click YES.
Enter your product key then click "continue"
When it says "Validation Complete" please click "Continue to return to your previous activity"
Copy what it says and paste it here.

Go into Printers in Control panel and right click and delete the printer then reboot and move the usb plug to another port before you do.

Every time I try to connect the printer to another USB port, the computer sends the print job to COM1 instead of USB0001.

    I already validated my Windows.
