As soon as I connect my laptop to internet, it constantly download at an incredible rate (around 1gb per 5 minutes) in ''spikes''. I used a Bandwidth monitor and it download like crazy the instant I activate my wireless. It is probably a malware, but I am unable to find/delete it. So are my anti-viruses.

I ran a Wireshark scan, but I really have no idea what I'm looking at, my experience with this sort of thing is completely inexistant.

I don't have Limewire or any program that might upload/ download constantly as far as I know beside Bit torrent which is always off.

I ran a Hijackthis scan and here's the result, I hope this is what's needed:

Bump, I might have overreacted on the download speed, it seemed like my computer was downloading gigs in minutes but my internet provider showed 1.47gb of download for the day.

Still, I don't think the problem went away, I am 100% certain something is wrong because there was a 50gig download in 3 days, which we never did. Perhaps someone went through the WPA protection, but I cannot say.

First thing to deal with on your system is that you have two Anti Virus and Firewall programs. You should never have more than one of each as it can cause conflicts, reduce system performance and reduce system security. There is also a remnant of Avast Anti Virus still running.

Please uninstall either Comodo or Videotron.

I have been unable to find a removal tool for Videotron so if you choose to remove that one please use Revo Uninstaller to be sure no remnants get left behind.

For Comodo please follow these instructions: https://support.comodo.com/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=298

Please also run this to remove remnants of Avast: Avast removal tool

You recently installed AVG PC Tuneup, this is a system optimizer and should not be trusted as they can and do make mistakes and should not be used without an in depth knowledge of the system registry.

I also see you have BitTorrent, downloading and using torrents is one of the easiest ways to get your PC infected. Please uninstall the program, but if you insist on keeping it DO NOT use it while we are cleaning your system.

When done please run these two scans and post the logs. For this and any future scans please Copy & Paste logs directly into your replies and do not put them in a Quote box.

SCAN 1
Click on this link to download : ADWCleaner and save it to your desktop.

NOTE: If using Internet Explorer and you get an alert that stops the program downloading click on Tools > Smartscreen Filter > Turn off Smartscreen Filter then click on OK in the box that opens. Then click on the link again.

Close your browser and click on this icon on your desktop:

You will then see the screen below, click on the Delete button (as indicated), accept any prompts that appear and allow it to reboot the PC. When the PC has rebooted you will be presented with the report, copy & paste it into your next post.

SCAN 2
Download RogueKiller (by tigzy) and save direct to your Desktop.
On the web page click on this:

  • Quit all running programs
  • Start RogueKiller.exe
  • Wait until Prescan has finished.
  • Ensure all boxes are ticked under "Report" tab.
  • Click on Scan.
  • Click on Report when complete. Copy/paste the contents of the report and paste into your next reply.
  • NOTE: DO NOT attempt to remove anything that the scan detects.

I must add that doing what you told me seems to have brought more problems.

-Now something is constantly UPLOADING from my wireless connection, everything is closed so I have no idea what it is.

-Bit torrent tried to download his toolbar on my browser (I removed it).

All that has been done so far is ADWCleaner has removed a bunch of Adware related toolbars and reset all the search and home pages. No changes have been made with RogueKiller, so not sure yet what could have caused the change. Which Anitvirus/Firewall did you remove.

BitTorrent was trying to replace it's toolbar that was removed by ADWCleaner so you did the right thing.

We need to clear out the Hosts file as I cannot see the purpose of all those entries. Please re-run RogueKiller and after the pre-scan completes hit the scan button, when done hit the Hosts Fix button and then Report to view the log and then post it. As asked before please don't post logs in a Quote box, please Copy & Paste them directly into your posts, this just makes them easier to read.

We shall see what this scan tells us:

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop.
Double click on the MiniToolBox icon

You will now see the following window appear.

Click on each of the boxes as indicated in the list below, then click on the GO button.

Copy & Paste the contents of the report that appears into your next post, you can also find a copy of the report on your desktop (Result.txt).

•Flush DNS
•Report IE Proxy Settings
•Report FF Proxy Settings
•List IP configuration
•List Winsock Entries
•List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
•List Minidump Files

I'm sorry about the quotes, I honestly didn't see that you wanted them without them. I thought it was cleaner that way.

I removed Videotron Security. It cost money and my friend (who work at Videotron) told me it was crap and I believe him.

Here are the reports.

PS: I first checked everything with minitool box and ran it. I re-read your post and saw that I made a mistake and re-did the minitool report, I hope this didn't change anything.

So far nothing is showing in the logs that could relate to the internet problem, but there is a hint at some other issues in the error logs.

Please run these two scans and post the logs.

Disk Check

  • Click on Start then type cmd in the search box. A menu will pop up with cmd at the top, right click on it and select Run as Administrator. Another box will open, at the prompt type chkdsk /r and hit Enter. Note: you must include a space between the k and the /
  • You will then see the following message:
chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)
  • Type Y for yes, and hit Enter. Then reboot the computer.
  • chkdsk will start when Windows begins loading again. Let all 5 phases run and don't use or turn off the computer. (The chkdsk process may take an hour or more to finish, if it appears to freeze this is normal so do not interrupt it. On drives above 500GB it can take several hours.)
  • When the Disk Check is done, it will finish loading Windows.

Then follow this guide to find the chkdsk log. NOTE: You need to do the search for wininit not chkdsk.
Windows 7 Disk Check log

Once the log is in view then click on Copy in the right hand pane and select "Copy details as text".
You can then right click on the message box on this forum and select Paste and the log will appear, add any further information asked for and then click on Submit/Post Quick Reply and your done.

System File Checker

  • Click on Start and type cmd in the search box. Right click on cmd in the popup menu and select Run as Administrator.
  • Another box will open, at the Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter. (Note the gap between the c and the /)
  • Let the check run to completion. DO NOT reboot the PC or close the cmd window.
  • Copy & Paste the following command at the Command Prompt and press Enter:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

  • This will place a file on your desktop called sfcdetails.txt which contains the results of the scan.
  • Copy and Paste the contents of the file into your next post.

It took around an hour for the log to appear (It didn't work the first time though) and then I couldn't find the wininit, had to click next a couple of time before it finally showed up, so I hope that's the right one.

The disc check has only found a minor issue which has been corrected and the file check has come up clean.

One thing I would ask you to observe, you said your internet connection was downloading a lot of data, but there is no apparent sign that anything is being saved to the hard drive, have you noticed if free space on the drive is getting smaller. If it isn't then clearly nothing is being downloaded.

I'd like you to boot the system into 'Safe Mode with Networking' and see if you can still observe a lot of data being uploaded or downloaded. Just start tapping the F8 key from the second you switch on then use the arrow keys to make the selection of 'Safe Mode with Networking' from the Advanced Boot Menu.

No, and that's the thing too.

50gb was definitely downloaded from my bandwidth on the 5-6-7 feb and I am 100% certain it wasnt us.

Does that mean that someone else was able to hack into my connection and steal my bandwidth?

Also, I used Networx to monitor my bandwidth, and on my wireless connection setting, no matter what I do it seems like the download and the upload bar are always working. The immense download dissapeared, but I don't know why it always show numbers even when everything is closed.

I know that on safe mode nothing download or upload as far as I know. I'm beginning to think that Networx is just throwing out numbers for the heck of it :/

This could be a typo on your part but I need to check, in 'Safe Mode' there will be no internet connection so nothing will happen, what about in 'Safe Mode with Networking' or is that what you have tried.

There is a possibility someone is using you connection if you have a wireless set up and you have not made it secure. If security is enabled try changing the password.

Just an after thought. If you open Windows Explorer, in the left pane click on Network and it should show your PC and any other PC that is connected to your network.

Yes, I meant safe mode with networking, sorry.

My internet is WPA protected and I know no one knows my password, I already changed it to be 100% sure but still, my internet provider told me that huge amount of data was downloaded toward 2am, hour that I am usually asleep. They couldn't tell me where it was downloaded, and said that it was probably a virus.

I don't know what else to say. If it really was someone else I know they didn't have my password so changing it is kinda pointless?

EDIT: Yes, nothing is strange in my network settings.

Ok, as 'Safe Mode with Networking' shows no activity then we should be able to isolate the process causing the problem.

This is part 1 of the process to be sure when minimal drivers and services are running in Normal Mode the internet activity remains inactive, obviously you need to keep any browsers closed.

Part 1
Selective Startup (Clean Boot)
I would recommend you print out these instructions and follow them slowly, one line at a time, as it is very easy to get confused with this. Unfortunately this is probably the only way we can find what is causing your problem.

  • Click on Start
then type msconfig into the Search box and hit the Enter key.
  • This screen should appear with the settings as shown:

  • Click on the Services tab and you should see this, click on the box next to Hide all Microsoft Services so a check mark appears.

  • Now click on the General tab and check the boxes as shown:

  • When done click on Apply and then OK.
  • The window will close and you will see a notification with two choices, click on Restart.

Now run the system and check to see if the problem has been cured. Tell me the outcome in your next reply.
