I can't find a similar problem in search so ...

My computer did this really weird thing. I restarted my computer this morning, and to my horror, all my documents had disappeared. There were only three folders in my documents - My Music, My Pictures and My Videos, and these only contain the standard sample stuff. Basically, my user is like new again! All my installed programs were there however.

The weird thing is, on my dad and sister's users, they still have all their documents.

So I take deep breaths, and try to calm myself. After a desperate system restore which I knew wouldn't work, I check out the properties of the My Documents folder, and realise it is located at C:\Documents and Settings\TEMP.BABALOLA\My Documents. I also notice this folder has been created today.

So I go to Documents and Settings, and to my immense relief, all my documents are still there in the folder Owner. And also in Documents and Settings is the folder TEMP.BABALOLA.

So, I've found my stuff (and am backing up as I type this), but does anyone know WHY this has happened?? Where has this folder come from? Shall I just copy and paste the folder back into My Documents? What if it happens again?

Sorry for the long post, and any help would be much appreciated. Thanks for reading :)

    first, check this...

    My Computer > C: > Documents and Settings > {your username} > My Documents

Is your username exist under "Documents and Settings folder? If Yes
Check if "My Documents" folder exist under it? If yes

right click on "My Documents" on the desktop or start menu.
    choose "properties"

Then next to target type this in the text box:
    C:\Documents and Settings\{your username}\My Documents
    click "Apply" then "OK"

    best.

seems like user profile got mess up.
how many user accounts do you have?
    if you only have one.

Try create new user and set it as Administrator.
Then login with that new user account and check My Documents properties.

    please post result...

    ok.. that's good.
    as next step
    - login with new user you just created.
    - right click on "My Computer"
    - left click on "Properties"
    - click on "Advanced" tab
    - in middle section you will see users profile and click on "Settings"
    - left click on the line with new username
    - click on "Copy To"
    - click on "browse"
    - then go to C:\Documents and Settings\{your old username} and click "OK"
    - then click "OK" one more time to close the dialog
    - close everything out
    - logout new user
    - log back in with old user

see it fix. you might lose those shortcuts on desktop. you may backup them before you do.

backup all the documents under "My Documents" before you do just in case if you do something wrong. You can find your documents from there:
    C:\Documents and Settings\{your old username}\My Documents

    best.

Something changed the my documents folder location for my computer as well. All windows settings have been reset including browser settings, my documents location, everything. When I logged in with my existing windows account Windows treated me like a new user. There's a TEMP folder under documents and settings and apparently that's my new {user} folder, but nothing is in that folder. I didn't lose anything, but I'm really confused as to what would have caused this. I'm running Windows XP Professional.
