    Hello,

My laptop seems to be really slow. I'm quite sure that my laptop has always been slow, so it's not like it suddenly just got slow. My laptop used to be Vista but was then I updated to Windows 7. To find more details about my laptop click the computer icon next to my username. I would like some suggestions on how I can make it faster as it's starting to annoy me.

    Thanks for reading

P.S I timed my laptop to see how long it would take to turn on then open my browser, it took 5 mins, it may sound short but its not short when you have to wait 5 mins every time you turn it on.

Hi, lets have a closer look at what you have in your system, if you are running a 64bit OS then don't be alarmed to see a lot of entries in the log showing as (File Missing). Do not be tempted to make any changes using HJT as it could make matters worse.

    Download and install HJT

When the TrendMicro HJT install box appears, double click on the HJTInstall.exe. Click on Install.
    * It will be installed by default here: C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
    * A shortcut to the application will also be placed on your Desktop.
    * The program will open automatically after installation.
    * The folder HijackThis is where you will find the HJT logs that you save.
    * The first time you open HijackThis, check the Main Menu button at the bottom center. When the main menu appears check the box "Show this window when I start HijackThis".
    * Click on "Do a system scan and save logfile." When the log pops up in Notepad, copy and paste that file back here as a New Message in this forum.
The use of HJT is purely for observation please do not try to fix anything with it or you may damage your system. If I see any suspicious files I will advise you to open a new thread in the Malware forum so an expert can help clean up your PC.

HijackThis produces a log of all your running processes and services. It provides an overview of what is running on your PC. All it does is create a report it makes no changes to your system.

Make sure you at least have your Anti Virus starting up or your system will have no protection when you are on line. If you have a third party firewall make sure that starts as well.

I'll be waiting to see the HJT log, it only takes a few minutes to run it. The log may hold the answer to your lengthy boot up time.

Damm, and sorry, I keep forgetting to change those instructions. Click on Start and type UAC into the box and hit enter, move the slider all the way to the bottom and click on OK.

Now try HJT again and it should be ok.

Surely doing this would be a security risk to my laptop. Currently my laptop was set to notify me so if windows was blocking it wouldn't it tell me and allow me to unblock it?

It could be a minor security risk but only if you are on line, if it concerns you then after you have run HJT simply switch it back on. This is the only way that HJT will run in Windows 7 as it does not bring up the "Run As Administrator" option in the right click menu.
