Can anyone please help me reinstall all my old data and settings from the my old disk structure folder that was created after I rebooted with a windows xp recovery disc.

I used the middle option which reinstalls all windows programs and promised to save all my personal data.

I also cannot find all my files that were stored on my desktop... does windows destroy all files that are stored on the desktop when the system recovery disc is used?

One thing you have to remember is that Windows does not know how to keep its word. Backing up your data is number one job and absolutely has to be done.

The XP recovery disk that you ran What company is it from? Actually it might be better if you contacted the tech support from that company about this and before you start installing anything more. It might cost a few dollars but you might just get your data back.

thanks for the reply, I also forgot to mention that my C drive is showing that there is only 2 gigs of free space left which would imply that all of my files are somewhere on my comp but I am unable to locate them through C drive file searches, or by opening up different submerged folders.

Im getting increasingly frustrated with a problem on my Advent 7108 - After running the recovery program for windows xp - all my personal files have ended up in a file in mycomputer/C: called "My old Disk Structure -- 07-04-14 0706PM".

I have attempted in safe mode to adjust the security tabs which enables me to reveal all my files still there and appear to be the same size and format, but cannot open any of them. WMP tells me the file is not accesible as it might be in use or i dont have access to the computer where it is stored, or my proxy settings might be insecure. JPEGS similarly have no preview available etc etc.

Can anyone point me in the direction of sanity?

    Thanks.
