My Samsung laptop had started flaking out the last week or two - stalling, freezing, giving me weird color shades occasionally, and taking forever to open programs sometimes. I'm afraid that the OS may be bad, but I also don't know if it may be a hardware issue, either.

I recently put a friend's Windows 7 OS on this laptop (Windows version 6.1). I had to reinstall all the drivers again - maybe I missed something?

Any help appreciated. I once lost the contents of a computer completely, so I don't want that to happen again.

I got another blue screen of death. It said "Page Fault in Nonpaged Area" - something like that. Unfortunately, I never configured a restore point on the computer to revert back to. I did a fix or something in the menu when rebooting and pressing F8.

    Maybe this helps.

Are you able to boot into Windows?

    If so, let's see this:

    Click Start.

In the search bar, type MSCONFIG and hit Enter. Click the "Startup" tab.

Write down only the names in the "Startup Item" column that have a checkmark next to them.

If the "Startup Item" column isn't wide enough to see the entire name of any of them, widen the column.

Submit those names here in a vertical list.

Make sure to spell them EXACTLY as you see them there.

    If you get another BSOD...

When your system BSODs, write down the STOP error code, as well as any written out error message back here. The STOP error will always appear, but the message may not. You are looking for this:

    Please post me the error(s).

I'll do this as soon as I get home, thanks.

Is the STOP error code the entire series of numbers on the STOP line or just the last set? I'd have to do a Print-screen to get them all in time - assuming that function would work when getting the blue screen of death.

Thanks for helping out. I'm fearful for the survival of this laptop.

The one outside of the parenthesis is the main one we need.

Here are my current startup items:

    Intel(R) PROSET/Wireless
    Intel(R) Common User Interface (C:\Windows\system32\igfxtray.exe)
    Intel(R) Common User Interface (C:\Windows\system32\hkcmd.exe)
    Intel(R) Common User Interface (C:\Windows\system32\igfxpers.exe)
    Synaptics Pointing Device Driver
    Microsoft Security Client
    Java(TM)Platform SE Auto Updater 2.0

I haven't gotten another blue screen yet. When I do I'll look for the error code.

    Thanks.

Things look OK with those startup entries.

Just post again when you get a BSOD.

No more blue-screens-of-death yet. I'm going to change out my RAM as soon as possible and see if it makes a difference. I'll post back for results.
