WikiHow is creative commons meaning the files are public domain. I wanted to put the website on DVD's so if the (gasp) net went down, I would have the expertise from the pages. My project has not gone well. Currently I have, after 2+ days of downloading, according to Tracker V3, 3882 files for a combined total of 209.32 meg. At the present time, WikiHow has 150,000 files on their web site. So I am way short of my goal. My problem is not my storage capacity, my problem is when I load up the directory containing the 3882 files I have now, my computer slows down to a crawl.

I have a massive web site and have way more files than 3882 files on the site on my computer without this kind of slow response.

Other than abandon my project, is there any way to load up the directory with the 3882 files and still have a working computer. I have 2 gig of memory on my computer.

Thank you in advance for your reply.
