this is my first NAS device. what raid config should i run? JBOD, RAID 0 (striping), or RAID 1 (mirrioring). I am using the NAS primarily for storage. however, i want to stream video from it as well. i am going with two WD black edit 1TB HD's.

If you stripe and one of the drives fails, you lose all your data. I would go with the mirror.

Also make sure the unit has the latest firmware.

thats what i was thinking. i was having a little issue with using two 1 tb hd's and only getting 1tb of storage space, but i guess its a small price to pay as opposed to loosing all my music and pics ect..

This is why other schemes of RAID are used instead of RAID 1 to minimize the amount of "wasted" disk space.
