    Hi,

Had a nasty virus tonight which wouldn't let me open anything and kept giving me start bar pop ups warning of an infection and security issues. Anything I tried to open was blocked saying "cannot run XXXX file XXXX is infected, do you want to activate anti virus now"

Some of the english in the warnings was poor to say the least!

If I selected to activate anti virus it took me to a website to purchase some software. Obviously I didn't! No other web pages were accessible.

I tried running AVG in safe mode but that didn't clear it.

I performed a system restore from safe mode to two days ago and that seems to have fixed it in as much as I can open programmes now and use the web. I then tried to download the trendmicro house call but that now says the download is an unknown file type (and says probably due to registry error). I am looking for a registry fixer or other suggestion. I don't have any sign of the virus now but wanted to run a trendmicro scan anyway to be safe.

Any suggestions on how to get trendmicro to run or clean the registry or tidy up after the restore would be greatly appreciated. Or am I barking up the wrong tree!?
