have a IBM ThinkPad 1161-41U (i series). Celeron Processor and I believe 128 mgb RAM. No new modifications, additions or changes recently. Battery about 9 mo. old. Was running well. Without warning not working the weekend. When powered on (using battery and/or AC), green battery light and power light go on and stay on. Green HD indicator goes on for about 6 or 7 sec then off. Not muuch in the way of sounds except perhaps brief activity of ? fan. Machine does not boot. In fact NOTHING comes up on screen. No errors, no nothing! About one time in every 40 or 50 tries it boots fine. All diagnostics incl through HD scan negative. Remove HD and replaced with formated HD previously removed because it was too small. Also will not boot. BTW, both HDs function fine in external USB enclosure.

I may be wrong but in the absence of error message or resolution of problem with other HD. It must not be the HD. Any clues?? THANKS
