AVG does and it is a good product. BTW do you have the current version

    http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

Remember that not all problems are virus releated

    SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
    AdAware SE http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html
    SpyBot S&D http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

DL them (they are free), install them, check each for their
    definition updates
and then run AdAware and Spybot, fixing anything
    they say.

    If you are having probs

Then get HiJack This http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html, put
it in a permanent folder, run it , DO NOT fix anything, post the
    log here.

No I'm not having any immediate problems. I just need a good free anti virus besides AVG and Avast. The new AVG will not run for me I have tried it twice, I cant even boot into windows after I have installed the new AVG it just hangs on the XP screen. And Avast uses way too many resources and slows me down. Yes I already have all those other programs and use them all the time.

Uhh what kind of reply is that? My original question was a free antivirus BESIDES AVG and AVAST. If you dont know any then thats fine but just because I dismiss your suggestions (because I already use all those progs) you dont need to be rude. Oh btw the problem is AVG related because I did a clean install of XP and AVG was the first prog I installed and it still didnt work. So live with that.

One thing you might try is unininstall everything to do with AVG and then when you reinstall choose the customized installation and untick the "boot scan option" and try it again. I haven't been able to find the option in the new AVG to do this so it was recommend that I install it this way. I don't know if removing AVG from the start up list would stop the boot scan or not plus you would have to manually start it up each time which wouldn't be a good idea.

Hmm thats interesting. The problem is after I install and reboot I never can get past the XP boot screen, so I guess I could install and not reboot and try and find and uncheck the boot time scan then reboot. Thx

I had a similar issue once after installing AVG on a Windows 98 system. I booted into safe mode, let AVG finish its install stuff and then I rebooted back into normal mode and all was fine.

Otherwise you can try this as well.
