Hi

I have a edimax broadband router (no wireless) which connects my 3 computers.
Recently i bought a laptop and i wanted to connect it wirelessly to rest of my home lan network...

I bought "level1" lan/wireless router,(i think the model is something like WBR-3403TX).
But it turned out to be very unreliable with cripple functionallity router.
It did reset every time there was a power break... and NAT lacks some cricial functionality.

The NAT functionality that i need is to be able :

to add reasonably many entries into farwarding table(level1 had ~10 predefined cells)

to specify which port/s to open using full range for port number(in level1 router i had a upper limit on port number ~2000),

to specify which protocol to allow(tcp/udp , level1 has none options for this at all)

obviously, associate all this information with specific lan ip.

lastly, edimax router had some predefined firewall settings(profiles) to support commonly used services and applications like msn, some games....(level1 also has something similar options but it lacks support for applications profiles, such as msn for example)

i have all this NAT functionallity in my edimax router...it was my first router and it is very robust router. i never had any problem with it...

Basicly i have two questions

What lan/wireless router models come with above functionaly?

or maybe

should i continue to use my edimax router and just buy some wap? and which one?

If you just buy a WAP you will have none of the features mentioned above, all you will have is a WAP and the ability to controll wireless connections to it. You are probably looking for functionality that you will not find in a SOHO retails router. If you are ever looking to expand on the same functionality you may be better off getting a firewall like a PIX 50X series.
