I have a computer running the BIOS version shown below:

    ATI-264GT/A2b EDO BIOS 2.224
    Phoenix BIOS 4.05.J
    1996 NEC Technologies Inc.
    Rev 00.01.24

    Computer specs are:

    NEC brand tower computer
    model# MT-1940-24833C
    pentium P133 Mhz processor
    128Mb RAM
    2 Gb IDE hard drive
    NEC multi-spin 8V CD drive

Do you have a newer flashable BIOS version compatible with this hardware?

I have contacted the following support groups and had no luck.

    - NEC Technologies (manufacturer of the PC) [response: too old, no support]
    - Phoenix BIOS (maker of the base bios that NEC further customizes [response: contact the pc manufacturer]
    - BIOStar USA [response: too old, try the pc manufacturer or Phoenix BIOS]
    - eSupport (AwardBIOS, Phoenix, AMI) [response: too old, no support]

What problems are you having with that computer that causes you to believe you need to update the BIOS or are you just trying to update "just because"?

You don't need a new BIOS, you need a new computer! :D

Seriously, you could find a used computer for not much more than a BIOS upgrade will cost for that ancient machine, if it can be found. There are places that sell BIOS upgrades, but you're trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear. Time to move on.

    alwrmc,

The situation I am experiencing is the PC fails to boot from the CD-ROM drive with
a known bootable CD (media) disk.

    The specific error message is:
"CDBOOT: Cannot boot from CD - Code 4"

The BIOS allows you to choose a Boot order 1st, 2nd, 3rd (i.e., floppy drive, CD drive,
    hard drive).

With the CD drive set as 1st and/or 2nd, it fails to boot from this drive.

I have physically installed this NEC Multi-spin 8V CD-ROM drive into another
computer and can successfully boot from it with the same bootable CD (media) disk.

This is the reason I felt a newer BIOS might help.

I know this computer is old and has seen it's days but it's the principal of the matter
that bugs me...the BIOS has support for this feature but what is causing it not to work?

    John,

Did you ever notice that when someone doesn't like a recommendation they just pretend it doesn't exist :D :D :D

Besides, why would anyone go in bizness selling urine? :p

I'm hoping it actually translates to "You're In Business", and not the
    R. Kelly type bodily function.

Have you ever gone or know someone who goes deer hunting?
You wouldn't believe the number of hunters that utilize (purchase)
the urine from a female deer in heat to attrack male deer in rut.
You might say it's a crappy job - but someones got to do it.
So I'll spend some of the profits on a new computer like the
recommendations say (the easy answer), I just thought someone
might have run into this issue before and found the hard answer.
No offense intended...I'm just trying to learn from others.
Thanks for taking the time to read my post.

P.S. Prunejuice - you're right too. The name is a play on words.
