What's the exact model number of that computer? If you don't know for sure, advise what the product/part number on the sticker is.

Does it have XP(32-bit) or XP(64-bit), and does it have Home or Pro?

Go into the Device Manager and advised what's listed in

    Sound Video And Game Controllers

Other Devices - if this heading exists

Unknown Devices - if this heading exists

I've already done that at the HP/Compaq site. There's a long list ranging from C700 CTO to C799VU. That's why I asked for the exact model number or the product/part number.

If it is the C700 CTO, we need to know the correct version of XP.

If it is the C700 CTO, we need to know the correct version of XP. If you click the link, you'll see 7 versions of XP.

I've checked all the XP versions listed and there's no sound driver listed.

Provide the Device Manager information that I previously asked for.

I can't help you identify the sound device if you're unwilling to provide the Device Manager information that I asked for.

We need to go from there and see if we can come up with a device ID and vendor ID.
