I am trying to reformat my PC with a windows XP cd. I put it in the top CD drive, and then reboot my PC. When it is starting up I go to boot sequence and select boot from cd. Then I hear the cd start spinning and what not, then it goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor. However it just sits there.

I tried the bottom CD drive right under the one I first tried, went to boot sequence, boot from CD, but then I get the error "Boot failed, F1 to retry, F2 to go to system utilites".

The cd boots up when I am in windows, the pop up window asks me if I wanna reinstall windows and what not. Anyone have an idea in which I can get the cd to boot up from start up?

Do you get the "Press any Key to Boot from CD-ROM" prompt when you trying to boot or not even that?

You can get boot disk's fro XP from www.bootdisk.com

Is this an original Windows XP CD or a Recovery, manufacturer branded, or burnt copy?

Yes, being an illegal copy could be the problem.
