I've been cleaning my sister's computer. However, I am having trouble getting a few things off. The symptoms are some folders that won't delete and a TopFiveSearch bar popping up in the browser. Can anyone help me get rid of any and all of this?

Umm... what? I read what you typed many times and it confused me. What is/are "4 stsrters"? are you asking me to delete that? What is chk? Is that a verb? "if not the correct pg Rs in hijack present these pgs." means absolutely nothing to me.

This is what I managed to pull out of that...
I already have Spybot and Ad-Aware("addware") and used them right before hijackthis. I also think you told me to delete R3, but I'll wait. Yahoo is my homepage.

there are several very suspicious entries

please do this before we try any manual fixes

Run an online antivirus check from at least one and preferably 2 of the following sites
http://security.symantec.com/default.asp?
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/
http://www3.ca.com/virusinfo/
http://www.anti-trojan.net/en/onlinecheck.aspx

The symantec site might find a trojan in these files, they are highly suspicious
C:\Program Files\burst\burst.exe
C:\Program Files\burst\btdownloadheadless.exe
C:\Program Files\burst\btdownloadheadless.exe
C:\Program Files\burst\btdownloadheadless.exe
C:\Program Files\burst\btdownloadheadless.exe

This is definitely a virus
C:\WINDOWS\System32\kernel32.exe

and this I suspect is not a sound driver but the new agobot polymorphic virus/trojan
C:\WINDOWS\soundman.exe

then
Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

then reboot &

Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least 01R279 31.03.2004 or a higher number/later date

Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

I'm going to run some more things before posting a new log. Burst is a known program of mine, and the 'headlessdownloads' were hidden windows I had running. I looked at Soundman and it looks like it's my driver. Are you suggesting that I go ahead and just delete any and all kernel32 files?

I'll try and close everything before I get the next log this time...

If you know burst is OK, then ignore it.

if you are sure about soundnman, then OK, it's just that the new agobot is using that name & something looked wrong with soundman being mixed amongst other known baddies

That kernal32 is 99% sure to be viral so if you have done the online scans, they will confirm it, if they don't see it as viral, I will be very suprised

but post a new hjt log before fixing anything
