Need Help COMPLETELY restoring sony vaio PCG-983L!!!

I have searched and searched, and I cannot find recovery disks for this particular laptop. I need to restore it ASAP. Please help me.

Are you sure that is the model number, I don't see anything like it either?

yeah it says it right on the bottom side of the laptop...PCG-983L

i contacted support, and they are baffled about the model number. Almost as if my laptop is not even real, they told me that they cannot help.

so if i just install let's say, windows xp, then it will completely restore the computer itself and not just the OS?

Not a big deal. It should be easy enough to find the drivers you need.

This is a very common situation, and the cure is simple:
Download and install Everest, Aida32 or Belarc. Identify the hardware, download and install the drivers.
I doubt there's anything particularly exotic in the way of devices, and once you've got the ethernet controller, Windows Update might even be helpful.
By the way, the first site I listed above indicates this laptop is also known as PCG-FX240, and the drivers for that model are here:
