I had no problems with my computer at all yesterday, other than it not putting itself into hibernation after being idle but that often happens because of the AOL processes running in the background.

Anyway, today I try to turn it back on (unhibernating) and it wouldn't come on. It would get to the resuming page and then just stop and the screen would go blank. So I hit the power button and try again and when it comes to the page syaing that there was a problem resuming from the hibernation and asking if I want to reboot or retry, I retried and the same thing happened. So next time I try rebooting and rather than rebooting I get CheckDisk checking my disks for about a minute then that stops and goes into reboot and everything appears to be back to normal.

Then I notice each time my screen saver starts to go, the screen goes black and the entire computer freezes. When I can finally get cont/alt/del. to work to unfreeze it says the computer had been running at 100% from the time the screensaver tried going back on.

I shut down and restarted thinking that maybe the checkdisk thing didn't fully run, and sure enough it came back on and started checking everything again, but for much longer this time. About half way through I see a mesage:

"Deleting index entry From.bmp in index $I3O (0) of file 1597"

It then goes back into scanning again and says "recovering lost files" and thats when the info was flying by to fast to see what it was saying.

Now I can reboot and start-up without CheckDisk going, but now my screen saver won't go on at all. I tried un installing the screensave (GpPhotoShow) and the re-installing but that samething happens.

    Any ideas/suggestions?

P.S. I'm going to try to run HackThis when I get home because that program is on a disk at home and my office comp won't allow me to get to the site to download it. I work in a school so we are REALLY limited as to how much we can use our internet because of al the security settings needed.

Thanks for the help. So when I go into safe mode- do I re-run HJT and then check the above items to fix them?

I'm kinda confused about what to do at the START-RUN part after typing in %temp%: does the box clear and then I type in the other stuff, or where do I put all that in?

What exactly is all the stuff by the way? And what did the checkdisk program remove?
    Thanks again

Yes run HJT scan only in safe mode to mark the entries and then click fix checked

You'll see on the %temp%, its just a shortr cut to delete temp files

Checkdisk removes files that are corrupt after a crash or other abort

Thanks for asking vs. guessing!!!! (y) (y)

I probably would have guessed if (a) I wasn't too sick, lazy and tired to do anything about it right now and (b) don't have the USB cord to my printer because I have to use it with my work computer and don't feel like crawling under my desk to get the cable off the scanner to use with the printer.

If ur printer is not available then save the instructions to a file, you just can't have IE open when doing these fixes

OK, didn't even think about that- I guess I wasn't sure if Word would work in safe mode. I already saved it so I guess I'll try it tommorow. At leaqst you saved me crawling under the desk.

OK, I'll try again. When I saved the info from the last one- the view hidden folders stuff and delete files didn't show up in the document.

(Why would PictureShare be causing problems all the sudden? I've had the program on this computer since day one and have never have any problems. In fact, I've had a bunch of hijackthis logs looked at since then and this is the only time anyone said anything about PictureShare. Any other programs like PictureShare that I could use? I love how it changes the desktop regularly using only selected files.)

    Here's the new log:
