    Hi bradofcanada,

    Welcome to the board!

I hope we can help preserve your sanity here... :D

First of all, when are you getting this error? At startup/shutdown/while surfin' the net/opening or closing a specific program?
    You get my drift...

Hi bradofcanada, welcome to TSG.That error can be caused by alot of things incl. spyware.Download Ad-aware 5.6 and see if any spyware is on your system.

    http://www.lavasoftusa.com

Let us know what it finds.

Might also be a good idea to post your startup programs here.Go to Start>Run>type in Msinfo32,click on the software enviroment, then startup programs, click edit>copy>and paste the page back here.

    Hello bradofcanada,

You definitely have a lot of spyware! Webhancer. DAP, Gator. etc.
Please go to the link provided by beach51 and download Adaware. While on the site it is a good idea to read up on "Spyware". Webhancer in particular causes all sorts of problems. Good luck! KW1

    Hi Brad,

This is an impressive list indeed! :D

Uncheck EVERYTHING, just leave the following items:

    MSMSGS Registry (optional)
    Mirabilis ICQ Registry (optional)
    ScanRegistry Registry
    SystemTray Registry
    VsStatEXE
    LVComs Registry (Machine Run)
    LoadPowerProfile
    Vshwin32EXE Registry
    DownloadAccelerator (optional)
    NPROTECT Registry
    BannerZapper Registry
    LoadPowerProfile Registry
    SchedulingAgent Registry
    Vshwin32EXE
    PersFw Registry (Machine Service)

Click OK, close Msconfig, and reboot (important)

    After that, run Ad-Aware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/index.html

Have it scan your drives and registry for spyware, check everything it finds, click 'Continue', and have it removed.

    Reboot again!

    Good luck,

Glad to hear you got rid of all the spyware.Follow Tony's advice and remove the check marks in your startup using msconfig.

Let us know how your system runs now.

    Hi guys,

It's a good idea to first uncheck everything, and reboot afterwards, and only then run Ad-Aware.

Brad, at least reboot after running Ad-Aware.
That's really strongly advisable, especially when removing things like WebHancer without first disabling them .

And remove the things we mentioned from startup:
Ad-Aware will not remove NewDotNet, at least not when you download the latest Reflist file (also a very good idea)
Removing Newdotnet with a version of Ad-Aware that has not been updated, has caused may people to lose their internet connectivity.

    It pays to tread carefully.

    Brad,

Go to start/run, and type Msconfig. Go to the Startup tab, and uncheck everything except for the things we advised you to leave.
Click OK, close Msconfig, and reboot.

    Grtz.
