I ordered this laptop off eBay. It boots up and show it's logo and then gives me 2 booting options. Neither of them work so I tried to factory reset it from I what I read. Turn it off and turn it back on then press fn&f11. That didn't work either. What should I do? Need help!!! The image below are the options I get when it boots up.

    Hi, and welcome to TSG.

It looks like the BIOS may not be finding a hard drive. Power up the laptop and go into the BIOS settings. Information on doing that can be found in the link below. It will be via tapping the F1 function key or the ENTER key.

Then check if a hard drive shows up in the settings. If is shows up, go into the startup settings and make it the first item in the boot order. If it is already listed as the first boot item, it is possible the seller wiped the hard drive before selling the laptop to you. If that is the case, check the item description on eBay to make sure it was listed as including an installed and registered copy of Windows.

What is the exact serial number on that Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E430 laptop?

Have you opened the compartment on the bottom of the case to see if it actually has a hard drive?

I have to get operating system and go from there. I did some more research on it. The guy I bought it from failed to mention it didn't have a operating system. Help?

I've deleted one of your images as it contained the COA license key which should never be posted in public. Anyone could then use it and you would then be blocked from using it.

I will post some of the information it contained though for reference.

    It said:

    Lenovo Singapore
    Windows 7 Pro OA

You should be able to download and install Windows 7 Pro and use that license key to activate it but it's past end-of-life now and no longer receives updates. Perhaps you should investigate installing that though and then upgrading to Windows 10 which can be done for free if the hardware can support it. I can't advise on that but others will be able to help you with it.

Have you confirmed that it has a hard drive that is detected by the BIOS?

I messaged the seller and he told me he took off the operating system off. I'm stumped. I can't get past the booting interface on it.

I'm sorry I didn't know. I'm still learning. I'm stumped on it and frustrated with it.

You can't boot a computer that has no operating system.

How do I get it fixed or did I waste money on it?

Then you'll need to install an operating system. Follow Cookiegal's advice for Windows. I would use a free Linux distribution, but you may not be comfortable with that and it may not meet your needs (if you need Windows applications).

But, while I'm here, I still don't see that you have confirmed the existence of a hard drive. That may simply be because there is no OS on it, but it also could be that it came loose during shipping.

No hard drive either. I'm having no luck with it. I guess that's what I get for ordering it off eBay....

I'm curious and you don't have to answer if you don't want to but..... how much did you pay for it?

You would need to purchase a 2.5 inch SATA hard drive and install it in the laptop. You could then need to create a bootable DVD or USB drive with the Windows 7 installer.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows7

If you do go with purchasing the hard drive, ask the laptop's seller if they did the free upgrade to Windows 10 when it was available. If so, I believe it is possible to do a clean installation and activation of Windows 10 on the new drive.
