Windows XP, Officer 2003, EXCEL

Need formula to perform specific varying functions that will multiply a named CEL by a specific number that will vary by letters entered into a CEL.

Example: CELL Entry is Letter "P". Want another cell to perform and display result of A1*.6

CELL Entry is Letter "B". Want same cell above to perform and display result of A1*.4

CELL Entry is "B/P". Want same cell above to perform and display result of A1*.5

I can do the IF thing and get the formula to work for two arguments, but need to get results for the THREE arguments indicated above.

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Your use of "CEL" is a bit confusing (at least to me). Are you assigning a name of "CEL" to some specific cell or are you calling any cell a "CEL"?

CEL meaning Cells in EXCEL Spreadsheet. Need formula to address THREE arguments and invoke THREE responses based on ONE of THREE being TRUE.

For requested results with answer in c2 try

c2=if(cel="P",a1*.6,if(cel="B",a1*.4,if(cel="B/P",a1*.5,"?????")))
replace ????? with result if cel is none of P,B or B/P

Formula works! Thanks so much! It also helped me see what I had been doing wrong. So, problem fix and I learned something. Thanks Again! What a GREAT website!
