Every time I restart my computer my Internet homepage is reset to some Search for... search engine, I ran CWshredder and it helps until I restart my computer, I don't know much about computers and was hoping someone can help me out. I ran high jack this and this is what I got as a result.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Gonna need you to download a few programs!!

Download and install APM from here:
http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=apm
(don't run it yet we will get to that in a minute)

Please DO NOT run any of these until I ask you to!!

AboutBuster:
Here is the link:
http://majorgeeks.com/download4289.html

First unzip all files from the zip folder to a folder or your desktop.
Start it and hit ok.
Then hit update.
A new screen should popup.
On that screen hit Check for Updates.
If it said it found an update hit Download Updates.
If it doesnt it will automatically tell you and exit.

Ad Aware SE:
Here is the link:
http://majorgeeks.com/download506.html

Update immediatly and reconfigure:

Reconfigure Ad-Aware for Full Scan as per the following instructions:
Launch the program, and click on the Gear at the top of the start screen.
Under General Settings the following boxes should all be checked off: (Checked will be indicated by a green circle with a check mark in it, Un-Checked is a red circle with an X in it. If it is greyed out, those features are only available in the retail version.)
"Automatically save logfile"
Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal"
Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
Prompt to update outdated confirmation) - Change to 7 days.
Click the "Scanning" button (On the left side).
Under Drives & Folders, select "Scan within Archives"
Click "Click here to select Drives + folders" and select your installed hard drives.
Under Memory & Registry, select all options.
Click the "Advanced" button (On the left hand side).
Under "Shell Integration", select "Move deleted files to Recycle Bin".
Under "Log-file detail", select all options.
Click on the "Defaults" button on the left.
Type in the full url of what you want as your default homepage and searchpage e.g. http://www.google.com.
Click the "Tweak" button (Again, on the left hand side).
Expand "Scanning Engine" by clicking on the "+" (Plus) symbol) and select the following:
"Unload recognized processes during scanning."
"Obtain command line of scanned processes"
"Scan registry for all users instead of current user only"
Under "Cleaning Engine", select the following:
"Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion."
"During removal, unload explorer and IE if necessary"
"Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot."
"Delete quarrantined objects after restoring"
Click on "Safety Settings" and select "Write-protect system files after repair (Hosts file, etc)"
Click on "Proceed" to save these Preferences.
Click on the "Scan Now" button on the left.
Under "Select Scan Mode, be sure to select "Use Custom Scanning Options".

CWShredder Version 2.1:
http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshredder_download.html
Select Download the stand-alone version of CWShredder
Check for any available Updates!

Open HijackThis and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet!

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button!!

Now, start APM.
In the upper window select explorer.exe
In the lower window find and rightclick C:\WINDOWS\System32\com.dll

Select Unload DLL, and click OK on the prompts that follow.

Reboot into SAFE MODE(F5 or F8 when restarting)
Here is a link on how to boot into Safe Mode:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...2001052409420406?OpenDocument&src=sec_doc_nam

After restarting in Safe Mode,Configure Windows to Show All Hidden Files and Folders, this must be done after restarting in Safe Mode!!
Here is a link to help with that:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=62
Please make sure the Configuration is done after restarting into Safe Mode!

Once in Safe Mode, locate and delete:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\com.dll<<< Just the DLL!

C:\Program Files\Common files\SearchUpgrader<<< The Entire SearchUpgrader Folder!

Once that is complete, please Open and Run About Buster, please make sure all other Windows and Browsers are closed before you run it!

After the first pass,it will prompt you to restart and run again!
Do So,let it run again, both passes will provide a log,I need to see those!

Once the Second pass is done, save the log and Close AboutBuster.

Now Open Ad Aware,Scan, and delete all it finds!

Now Open CWShredder,Click the FIX Button, let it Scan, delete whatever it finds!

When finished, reboot your system again and bring it back up in normal mode. Run MSCONFIG and enable everything in the startup area. To get to MSCONFIG, click on Start -> Run -> type in MSCONFIG -> click OK.
Select the tab labeled Startup and put a Check by every box there!! Once everything is enabled, run "Hijack This!" and post a new log to this thread!!

OJ, I did everything you asked me to do step by step.I wanted you to know that when I ran APM, there were two c:\windows\explorer.exe in the top window. I chose the one that was closest to the top, I'm not sure if it makes a difference between the two. It looks like R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank was not removed, could this be because i dint click it when I removed the other files? I now have a backups folder on my desktop that was not there before. Inside it, there are 20 files e.g. backup-20050204-230207-869.dll but all different. Do I need to move this folder in a certain location, leave it or delete it? Thanks for all your help:)

Here is the APM log:

OK, I did what you asked step by step. I wanted to let you know that when I ran APM there was twh c:\windows\explorer.exe in the top window. I chose the first one from the top, does it matter which one I selected? I now have a backups folder on my dest top that was not there before. Do I need to move this folder, delete it or leave it? Here are the logs you requested. It looks like one of the files from hijackthis was not removed. Let me know if you need me to do anything else. Thanks for your help

Here is the log for AB

Sorry about the Delay,My Internet Provider had different plans for me!

You did a fine job,no need to worry!!!

Open HijackThis and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet!

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SpyKiller] C:\Program Files\SpyKiller\spykiller.exe /startup

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button!!

Locate and Delete this:

C:\Program Files\SpyKiller<< That Program is Suspect at best!

Now Open Internet Explorer,Select Tools>>>Internet Options
Now change the Hompage back to whatever you want it to be!

Restart the PC and Scan with HijackThis again and save that log!

Download eScan:
http://www.mwti.net/antivirus/free_utilities.asp
Extract All Files,Double-click it to run it, select all local drives, scan all files, press 'scan' and when it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane. Highlight it, Copy and paste it in your next reply.
All I need to see is what is in the bottom Window!

Place those 2 logs in your next post!

Open HijackThis and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet!

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sp] rundll32 C:\DOCUME~1\ROMAN~1.ROM\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll,DllInstall

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button!!

Please Unregister this DLL:

Click Start>>>Click Run>>>Copy&Paste this into the Text Box and Press OK!
regsvr32 /u se.dll

Reboot into SAFE MODE(F5 or F8 when restarting)

After restarting in Safe Mode,Configure Windows to Show All Hidden Files and Folders, this must be done after restarting in Safe Mode!!
Here is a link to help with that:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=62

Now Navigate to this folder:

C:\DOCUME~1\ROMAN~1.ROM\LOCALS~1\Temp

Please delete the entire contents of that Temp folder and Empty the Recycle Bin!

Now locate and delete this file:
C:\WINDOWS\odbs.log

Restart Normal, and Lets get HijackThis Updated!

Open HijackThis, look to the Bottom Right and Click Config>>>Click Misc Tools>>>Click Check for Update Online!

Scan&Save a log,Post it in your next Reply!

When I Click Start>>>Run>>>regsvr32 regsvr32 /u se.dll
a RegScr32 icon poped up and said this module was not found.

Thats OK,the log looks clean to me!!

I noticed by the 016s you have used TrendMicro,BitDefender and Rav Online Scan.

Would you choose 1 of those and scan the System once more, just to be Safe!

Post back and let me know how the Scan turns out and I think we are about done!
