What version and patch level of Windows? Assuming XP-SP2, try this.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ip reset reset.log

    Reboot the machine.

For earlier versions of Windows or XP prior to SP2, try this: Automated WINSOCK Fix all Windows Versions

Why don't you have SP2 loaded?

Use the earlier repair, the second one posted.

I got the computer from a sale and it had XP on it, when I try to load SP2 it says it needs some software key?? I tried your fix and it did not work for some reason.

you say you cleaned the computer but it sounds like possible residual problems from the trojan.

    what removed the trojan?
