Need Help!

    Hi, new here need some help

    I want to transfer files from my laptop to my desktop...I am using a cable modem but I dont have a router to connect the 2 computers...is there a way that I can connect the computers without a router using just ethernet cable? my laptop is running XP Professional and the desktop is running Win98...all I want to do is burn off the stuff on my laptop but I need to get it to my desktop first...any help is much appreciated

    What you need is a crossover cable. what is it is basically an ethernet cable but 4 of the wires are switched around. you can either buy one or make one. then you just plug it in both computers, set up the network like you normally would, and poof, your comps are connected.

    you wouldnt happen to know how to do this (what wich wires to switch around) or know where I can find this info on how to do it?

    just do a search on google or some place, here is a link, but you need the ends to the cables and a crimper

    I beleive its just switch the green and orange wires around. the solid green with solid orange, and white green with white orange

    you might be able to just cut the wires and switch them around that way, but it doesn't look as nice as putting a new end on with the wires switched around
