Hi - I think I have been hijacked or have some kind of adware, spyware, that I cannot get rid of. I am running MS ME, NAV 9.05.15 and have done numerous scans of Ad-aware and Spybot Search & Destroy. The problem is my machine is sluggish, hangs and runs out of memory fast, and now I cannot sign into my home page (excite) altho I put the excite cookie in the ignore list on spybot & ad-aware. Also when I boot up, the machine tells me I have changed something in my startup settings (when I havn't) which leads me to believe that something is re-installing itself after I delete it thru the scan. I have run hijackthis and here is the log file. Please help - I don't know what else I can do. Thanks in advance. Sue.

I am not enough of a ninja with HJT to safely tell you how to trim that....

But I can see that you have several (5) programs in your startup folder that do not need to be autostarted.... (especially the ms office one... its a resource hog)

Delete these files you may need to show hidden files.

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\HROD1.EXE
    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DGET1.EXE

    Fix these

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [3942GT924HEP2Y] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Gbi1r6.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\DGET1.EXE
    but how do I fix

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [3942GT924HEP2Y] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\Gbi1r6.exe
    as per MFDnSC.

I do have the latest version of ad-aware, but have not tried spy sweeper or pest patrol. Are they safe?

have never used pest patrol- dont know how good it is

spy sweeper is good (also $30 :\
but you can always d/l the trial version -
    http://www.webroot.com/downloads/

as for Gbi1r6.exe, delete the file or copy and paste to recycle bin to be safe-
also run msconfig and see what all loads at startup (uncheck the Gbi1r6.exe box
    if it's there)
my opinion but i would just format and reinstall -

do you have ad aware or ad aware se ?- se is the the new version- it finds more things than the old version did....
