I bought this computer last year:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01GSBAEEQ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and recently it has been having trouble running programs simultaneously, which is a major problem as my job requires this. I am therefore looking to upgrade it internally as much as possible.

I will be upgrading my monitor to a newer higher end ultrawide model (something like an Acer Predator Z35P Quad HD 35") as well, and would really just like my new setup to be able to shoulder a larger workload smoother.

    Any help?

The more Threads and Cores your CPU have the better it will handle multitasking, its almost 2019 so i would sugest 3.5 GHz and not lower, Look into getting a Ryzen 5/pro or Ryzen 7/Pro (6 Cores or more, Depends on how many tasks are running at once and how intensive they are)

just double check the model you select is compatible with the motherboard and if you have the money, look into getting a SSD as your main or secondary, having windows and your applications installed on a SSD makes the boot times and application loading times much faster

PS: make sure your power supply will be able to support whatever new CPU u choose
