They say a picture is worth a thousand words but exactly what kind of text are you expecting to get from a video?

Just asking for clarification. I saw a post one time where someone wanted to capture the text that appears along the bottom of some news shows.

There are programs around that attempt to convert audio files to text that may be able to work with the audio portion of a video. The accuracy of the conversion depends on the source. The accuracy may be fairly decent (but not perfect) if the video is of one person speaking without any heavy accents and with no other background sounds. Start adding other people talking, music or background noises and the accuracy will most likely plummet.

    can u suggest any programs?

the reason why i was asking was because i found a web service that does this - transcribe your videos
great i thought - just what i need
but, then i thought: hold on, here must be PLENTY of (desktop) software out there that does this already anyway!

Sorry, I never had a need for such software and have not looked into it any further than just a general interest in the current state of the technology.

As already stated by cwwozniak, such software would require the ability to
decipher complex audio. I don't know of such readily available software on the Web.

You could alternately use a program like Audacity to record audio. Then, with a slow playback, you could write down the audio.
