Yes, some folks are still in the Dark Ages using dial-up (don't get me started on the Verizon monopoly around these parts) . . .
A friend purchased a new Compaq Presario pc that only has an ethernet "connector" - they have nothing but dial-up available. So we scavenger-ed (technical term) their modem from their old computer and installed it. It SAYS it's downloading the drivers from the disc that came with the modem . . . HOWEVER, nothing really downloads. and the computer does not recognize the modem. I suspect the drivers and Vista don't like each other . . . Where can I go to download drivers that will work with a Smart Link 56k modem and the Windows Vista-crap OS? They get a free Windows 7 upgrade later this month, but need to be able to get online to upgrade . . .
Not interested in any sites that want to invade my system and "fix" my drivers . . . Just want to download a few drivers, burn them to a cd, and take them to the new Compaq.
Many thanks . . .
