Has anyone ever successfully installed a Net Gear FA311 NIC in a Windows for Workgroups 3.11 environment? The machine is a Dell Dimension series, 133 MHz Pentium 1, 16 MB of RAM, and the operating system was bundled in with it.

I'd like to get this machine hooked up to my current ( 2.4GHz XP ) machine, so I can move a bunch of CAD files ( more than I care to sneaker net ).

Net Gear's box clearly states WfW3.11 compatible, but it won't install, and their customer support basically told me to go away.

It is not a hardware problem - the Net Gear test program runs on both machines, and the two FA311s play nice with each other. They just don't play with 3.11. I've tried swapping cards between the two machines, but that didn't make any difference.

You could always pull the hard drive out and install it in your new machine, then copy the files.

It does generate error messages, but I will have to re-attempt the installation to regenerate/record them. Forwarding the messages to netgear was absolutely useless, however. I got partly hung up trying to load drivers from the netgear diskette - the utility couldn't find files that DIR saw clearly.
