In netscape 4.7x in messenger. Under the sent folder, I use to could click on recipient to sort by who I sent mail to. Now it says sender, so they all have my name. I have clickd the arrows to move the options over but still can not find recipient to click on. Any ideas?

emong007,

Not sure what your saying. But if your talking about the same arrow I am thinking about click on the one on the left till it is grayed out and all that will show up will be showing. You can crab the menu bar and change the order of them.

I think what emong007 is saying is that his 'Sent' folder does not show the Recipients column. Instead it is showing the Senders column.

This happend to me once. I fixed it by going to Edit > Preferences > Mail & Newsgroups > Copies and Folders

In the first section (When sending a mail message, automatically), click the Choose Folder button. Select 'Other' and from the drop-down menu, select the 'Sent' folder.

Click OK twice. Close then re-open Netscape.

Did you click on the sent folder on the left?
If you are on Inbox, you're going to see Sender, if you click on Sent on the left, you should see Recipient!!

I just looked at each folder and mine is like r01axb for the sent and the unsent messages folder. But I think that is the way it is made to be.

hewee,

I'm not sure what you mean by "r01axb", but I can assure you that, in my case at least, it was not an easy task to get it to list the sender (which was always me) rather than the recipient. I had been playing around with Netscape Mail by renaming and deleting a bunch of folders. I have not been able to recreate the issue since.

Here is an article from the NSKB that describes the "phenomena":

How do I get the "Sent" folder to sort by recipient? It currently sorts by Sender, but since I'm always the sender that is of no use.

Ratboy,

Hey good find. I played around and tested it also and it worked just the way it says. I had to close messenger down to get the recipient to show up in the new send folder I made. After that I deleted the folder and it went back to where it was before I changed anything.

But look at the answer and what ot says is how mine has always worked.

So emong007 are you still having the sent folder used to sent the out going email or did you make a new folder?

I am still using the sent folder to keep out going mail and the steps above solved the problem.

Thank you for the wonderful help.

I'm running Netscape 7.0 and having the same trouble as emong007 reported earlier, but I can not follow the same fix instructions as there is no 'copies and folders' under the 'mail & newsgroups' folder. Anyone have suggestions for Netscape 7?

What caused this is that I keep all of my email incoming and outgoing, and want to sort them by year to keep the files from getting too big.

A related problem is that I need to be able to strip off attachments like jpgs etc. Any solutions for that problem?

Thx all

Gary101,

Welcome to TSG!

In Netscape 7, open the Netscape Mail window (Window > Mail & Newsgroups).

In the Netscape Mail window, go to Edit > Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings > Copies & Folders {listed under your account}

In the right-hand pane, Select Other in the When sending messages, automatically: section. From the drop down list, select Sent.

If this does not fix the issue, I would suggest starting a new tread. This thread has been marked "solved", so it might not get as much attention.

You can sort your messages by year by going to View > Sort by > Date

I hope this helps.
