    Hi,

Last week I had a problem connecting with my home network. Here are the details of the problem:

    http://forums.techguy.org/networking/1030587-solved-wireless-connection-problems-dell.html

It happened after I connected to another wireless netwoek. I did what worked last time (reset TCP/IP) and it reset for about 5 minutes and then I got knocked off again.

I removed my network profile and then added it again but still not working. My home network is not even showing up on Xirrus Wi-Fi inspector.

Please help! I would also like to know if I need to replace network adapter? Is that a piece of hardware? I would like to know if it's worth taking to a computer shop to fix permanantly. I hope to get a macbook soon but need this computer for work until I can replace it. Thanks :)

    Eunice

    UPDATE: Wireless network connecting again.

Obviously, this is going to happen again if I try to connect to another wireless network. Which sort of defeats the purpose of having a laptop, at least this one.

I'd welcome your opinions on whether or not I should take this in to be fixed. Budget is tight and this makes replacing my laptop a little more urgent. Any ideas on how much it would cost to fix?

Not knowing what needs to be fixed nor the honesty and ability of whomever you may take it to there is no way to estimate how much you could spend.

Post the following now with wireless working with your network, and then when/if you get a failure show the same info again. (This should look familiar, as you've shown the information before.)

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector and show ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

    Type the following command:

    IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Here are results. I won't be online for a while but here's info. I'll reply as soon as I can.

By the way, internet connection is working now. But obviously there is a problem somewhere that's going to keep cropping up. I am hopeful you can help me figure this out.

    Many thanks for your help!

UPDATE: I can't connect to the internet unless I am right next to my mac desktop or the router. Here are my IPCONFIG results and Xirrus results for today. This was done when I was away from the mac or router and couldn't connect.

    Thanks,

    Eunice

The signal strength is still plenty strong enough and you still have a good IP configuration (as far as I can see the same as before except for the day).

If I understand you correctly even with that apparently good connection to the router you could not access the internet but by simply moving closer to the router you could then access the internet. If that is correct all I can think of is that there is/was something in the first location interfering with the signals--something that doesn't show on the Xirrus output.

Two possibilities that come to mind are a 2.4 GHz cordless phone or baby monitor. If you have such a 2.4 GHz device you can, of course, unplug it and remove batteries to test. When/if this kind of interference occurs sometimes a different channel will result in less interference; you could try channel 11 (even though ch. 1 seems to be best based on the other networks). Also, sometimes the encryption matters; try w/o encryption (just to test); if that works then try WPA-PSK TKIP.
