Just build a new NAS box - Dell PowerEdge 2950, RAID 5, Windows Server 2000 SP4 - and would like to get some opinions regarding installing Windows Updates & AntiVirus.

The previous IT staff had configured the old NAS box without Windows Updates - Dell PowerVault 725N, RAID 5, Windows 2000 SP4. Apparently, they suspected Windows Updates had caused some problems so they stopped updating it. They also didn't install AntiVirus on it.

Would like to get some other views on NAS boxes. This machine would be the only NAS box in the system as we intent to retire the old NAS box once the new one comes online.

Would there be any issues setting it up for windows updates and installing antivirus on it? Any opinions would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
