network problem

    I'm trying to connect an old xp to vista. This is my first time, so if someone could help me, lead me step by step...that would be awesome!

    btw, the xp has some kind of virus, so the cryptographic service won't run. It also doesn't allow me to start the network setup wizard.

    i think you need to get the XP PC fixed for the virus first

    post a HJT log - see my signature for the link to the program - then we can move to the virus forum

    sometimes i'm able to "trick" it into working. i've been able to download some sypware (they found nothing) and to update drivers etc...

    do you think I can try to set up a network?

    i tried to install the program you suggested, but the windows installer...something...didn't work, or couldn't be accessed

    sounds like the PC really needs a virus check - moving to the virus forum, it may take a couple of days to get a reply as its a very busy forum

    is there a way to bypass having to use the network setup wizard? the xp won't open it...
