Hi, I would be so grateful if someone could help me with the following:

I un-installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 from a laptop and suddenly many things stopped working!
I then re-installed service pack 2 but it made no difference.

My main problem is a networking one:
I can't join the network in my office - when I try to I get a message 'a domian controller could not be contacted and then 'No DNS Servers configured for local system'
When use dial-up to connect to the internet I keep getting 'page cannnot be displayed'
My GPRS card can't connect at all

All these things were working fine before I uninstalled SP2 - maybe I have a TCP/IP problem? I'm really not sure. I checked the network card driver and it is OK

Something else I noticed is that DOS commands are not working properly:
eg, ipconfig /all is not recognised, ( but it does recognise ipconfig )

    Thanks for reading

    Katherine

Uninstalling a Service Pack is never a good idea . . you may be able to fix the networking problem using the WinSock Fix

Thanks, I will try this and post back to let you know if it works.
I really wish I hadn't uninstalled it now!

Well done . . be sure and go get all the security updates . . uninstalling SP2 may have taken some of them with it.
