I have two pcs connected to each other, one is a linux file/web server and the other is my Windows 2000 host. I am having a problem that when I go to use the Samba share that I have created on the server, a lot of the time it is not there even though I can ping the server by IP address.

Is there anything that I can do to stop this? The PCs are right beside each other so the connection quality is not an issue.

Have you tried another NIC? Are there any software firewalls in place?

No firewall in place. Nothing wrong with either NIC as they are both brand new and at all times I can ping between the devices. It is just that sometimes the shares drop off.
