    Hi

A friend of mine had a power cut for 30 mins, and while that happened he was on his PC, when the power went off, obviously his pc went off as well. I asked him if he had a surge protector on there, he said no, and since the powercut his pc has never started up. it made no noises, no smells, just no power. basically no ones at home.

Has the power supply just gone, or is it a more serious problem

    Any help would be great.

The power supply is most likely gone, although when a power supply gives up the ghost it can take other hardware with it. Try disconnecting all the drives and booting, if it doesn't boot replace the power supply and cross your fingers and hope everything else is okay.

Another thing you may try, is disconnect from the wall and if there is a power switch on the back side of the computer, turn it off too. Then plug back in, turn switch back on, cross fingers, hail Marys, etc.

If it's not the power supply that was zapped, it is probably the motherboard. If there was a phone line connected to the modem, take the modem out of the computer too.
