I did some searching on google and found these 3 sites.

Site 1 top pick is BitDefender
Site 2 top poc is BitDefender
Site 3 top pick is The Shield Pro, but second is BitDefender.

Would you agree with these site that the new best antivirus software is bitdefender?

depneds on who you ask, and what you are looking for. I prefer AVG, primarily because it's not a resource hog, and it's free. It's never let me down, and when I WAS paying for Norton, something got past it and hosed my system. I do use bitdefender's online scanner quite a bit, and have never had any issues with it, so if you like it, and the price is right, go for it.

I vote for AVG as well... it uses little resources and it's free. The updates are almost daily and it's simple to use. Not much more to ask for in an anti-virus.

AVG isnt very good for spyware and adware though
I use it anyway its great (y)
AVG wasn't designed for spyware, that's best left up to spyware scanners. It's kind of hard to manage both an virus database and a spyware database at once, although the two aren't far between each other in likeness.

NO all those sites in post 1` are advertising sites and they say which antivirus is the "best" by who giveds them the most affiliate sales & commissions

Bitdefender is a reasonable antivirus but doesn't come as high in the ratings on proper AV comparative sites

Is everyone saying that AVG is their favorite becuase it's free? What if you had 100 extra dollars to spend. Would you stay with AVG or go to something else?

In my view teh 2 best antiviruses are Kaspersky & NOD32

However many people use free antiviruses because they cannot or will not pay for proper full protection

AVG is a fairly good av and will find/detect and prevent the main common threats out there but is does have it's disadvantages

As dvk01 says, most comparison sites will rate either Kapersky or NOD32 as the best.

When I switched from NAV to NOD it cost the same, or slightly less, than the NAV sub renewal would have. NOD is very light on resources and it's heuristics can catch malware before 'signatures' are released.

Updates can be two or three times a day and I noticed that one of the recent updates included a signature for at least one of the WindowsMetaFile exploits (W32\WMF\Maker. A), so they are on the ball with that dangerous new problem.

I really cannot make my mind up between Kaspersky and NOD

I have KAV on 1 computer and NOD on the other

some weeks NOD is quicker at including new malware & some weeks KAV so it's a toss up BUT both of them are way ahead of almost all other antiviruses

the only other one that comes close at the moment in detecting & blocking is the latest version of panda with it's trueprevent & antispyware detection BUT that is a massive 54 mb installation KAV 13mb and NOD 8.5mb

and that can make a big difference with useage and overheads when running
