So I just finished putting together my new build and I start it up and everything powers up normally, but nothing shows up on my monitor and after a minute my graphics card starts spinning really fast and loudly. I guess I probably should have breadboarded the whole thing first to check for problems, but is there anything that might be causing this, that I could fix without having to take it all apart? What is weird is that when I remove the DVI cord from my PC, the monitor seems to acknowledge this and says no DVI or something, even though when it is plugged in it acts like nothing is plugged in. Just off the top of my head it seems like there is a problem with my graphics card but maybe there is just something I am missing.

    CPU - i5-2500k
    motherboard - ASRock z68 extreme3gen3
    ram - GSkill ripjaws 8gb
    GPU - Gigabyte 6950oc
    PSU - Rosewill Hive 550 w
    monitor - ASUS VW246H

When the GPU fan spins up really loud in many cases its because the power cable(s) are not plugged into the back of the graphics card.

Did you also check the guide at the top of this section for troubleshooting builds?
