Hi
I bought my computer about 6 months ago and since then I ahve had the HD replaced as it was not working properly. That was about 2 months ago. I was then having problems with the search/I] function of windows. I took my computer in to Futureshop and they called 2 months later saying they couldn't find a problem and that they had only run tests. My computer now runs rather slowly as well as sometimes takes >5 minutes to shut down. Also, when I play Battlefield 2 the game sometimes chugs. It never used to do that. Futureshop has abandoned me on this issue, offering no replacment nor repair nor advice. I'm not sure what to do. Any help?

Well, it sounds to me that their business practices can be safely called "shonky" (to put it politely, the mods would probably kick me out of TSG if I used the phraseology I would describe the Futureshop folk). After all, two months to run tests, no feedback or other contact...not very good service.

To assist in your problem, we need you to download HijackThis (http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip). Extract it to a folder like C:\Program Files\HijackThis. Run it, and select 'Scan'. Do not fix anything yet, just select 'Save log', and copy the contents of the log to your next post.

An expert will be along shortly to review your log.

You might contact a moderator and have this thread moved to the Security forum. You'll get much quicker responses there. I'm not an authorized helper for security problems, so I can't help you, but it does look like you have a few things in your hjt log that look suspicious (to me, anyway).

It is better to have the thread moved rather than to start another one over there.

Good luck.

You really shouldn't do fixes yourself, unless you are absolutely sure what changes to make and why.

Although I can't assist in HJT logs, I must recommend that you have it moved to the Security forum.

In the top-right corner of your message is a red triangle with an exclamation mark: Report Post to Moderators. Ask them politely if they can move your post to the Security forum. You'll more likely (and more quickly) get a response.

I didnt do anything through HJT. I used SB S&D to remove some of the programs that started at bootup

Indeed techkid is right. I see you no longer have CCAPP.EXE running at startup and thats an integral part of Norton Antivirus.

How is Search not working? Is Windows Update or System Restore functional or also broken?

Make ssure Search is enable:

Try this out...

Right Click on "My Computer" and click "Manage"
Then Click on the "Services and Applications" Item
Then the "Services" Item
Scroll down the list until you see "Help and Support"
Make sure the startup type is "Automatic" and the service is "Started"
If its not right click on "Help and Support" and start the service.
Then try to start "Help and Support" from the start menu.

Also if I remember correctly, if you take a computer back to FutureShop 3 times they have to replace the computer with a new one. Since they had it for 3 months and didn't fix anything I'd strongly complain to management and demand that they either reload the system from the recovery CD's or to give you a new system.

Sorry for jumping to conclusions. Just the way it was worded that threw me off.

Yeah, i dont use Norton anymore as CCAPP.EXE was not responding when ever I turned off my computer and as a result or not it would often take >5 min to shut down. Search is working now but before when I tried to run it it said Windows didn't have all the required files to run the search utility.
Some of the repairs that I have needed have been software issues due to incompetancy in the repair room at futureshop but those are not hardware problems so they don't count towards the lemon count. bs eh? I've talked to 3 different managers but they really want my money. I've been advised by a lawyer friend of mine to go to small-claims court as well as sue Futureshop for loss of time and grievances but I just don't have the time.
