I recently purchased a new Dell computer and should be receiving it in a couple of days. I am requesting any recommendations you may have to offer in security.

As soon as it arrives and you get it running ... Make your Dell Recovery DVDs
You will only have one chance to do this .. So use a good quality DVD.

Well have you tried to get some reviews on the google? There are some sites that give out good reviews on them. Just remember to research first on what is the other peoples opinion on them. Also try out the site on my signature they might help you on deciding and what you must do.

I was just telling you what I use and how well its worked for me personally.
Take some of the advice of the other posters as they are probably a little more experienced than me.

AV ratings are like watching a race .. leaders keep changing places ..
And you have to be sure your looking at some current results .. and not last years/months reruns.

And no AV is perfect or protects you from ALL that can go wrong.

Personally .. I use AVG because it's free and light on my computers resources.
I spend my money on some good backup software and hardware.
Then I can fix anything that goes wrong ... rather quickly

There are only two types of computers made ...
Those that have got corrupted or crashed .. and those that will.

I want to thank each and every one who responded with their recommendations. lilLb I am sorry if I offended you in any way. How does one make a copy of a clean OS and what DVD do you recommend to copy on. I am computer illiterate and hoping to advance to beginner. all your responses are appreciated. :)

Personally, I don't use disks. No burner. I just install a second drive as slave and copy my C drive onto it.
My security choices are Avira AntiVir, Comodo firewall, SuperAntiSpyware, MalwareBytes, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and WinPatrol.

If you don't want to install a second internal Hard Drive ..
You can always use a USB external Hard Drive .. and make a backup Image of your computer.

It really helps to do this just after a fresh install of Windows and after you get it configured the way you want it.

How do I perform a "clean Install" and will a "clean install" free computer of any and all infections?

As long as you run an Anti Virus scan the virus will surely be removed and you can perform a safe installation. Also Don't forget to scan what you have install. Check the site below they might help with some new problems about other malware problems.
