Am getting a new computer and am thinking on transferring files from my old one.Do those cables work and can you choose what you want to transfer?Or would I be better off starting with a clean HD and keeping my old HD for a 2nd one? Also, can I configure my new computer myself for Internet connection or do I have to call my ISProvider for this?

If you want a direct Ethernet cable conection between two computers (i.e., no switch between them) be sure to use a "cross-over' cable not a regular one. Not sure what you mean by "clean HD", however, files can be easily transferred, just not the OS and apps. Depending on your knowledge, you almost positively can configure your PC for Internet use by yourself. If you run into issues, come back here and say what kind of connection you have (DSL, cable modem, USB dongle, etc.).
