New Hard Drive need help

    Justed installed a new drive hdrive in my dell desk top. I purchased sata drive when I needed an ide, so I had to use an adapt to connect to board. I had windows xp disk to reinstall operating system. Error message states unable to locate drive after asking where to install. Need help.

    u can do one of 2 things either return the hard drive and get the correct one put in or u can go into the bios by hitting F2 and see if u can change it to SATA or ATA or IDE compatable.hope this helps u.i think it will work much better tho with the correct drive in it. i know on laptops u cant mix and match hard drives. if they arent correct they wont even fit.
