Hello, after I rebooted my computer, something odd happened; Windows said that new hardware was found when I didn't do anything to the computer.
I can't install drivers for this thing because I have no idea what it is. Looking at the device manager, I see that it says its listed as

    PCI Input Device

amd the properties for it states:

PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 2, device 2, function 1)

This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)

The Device Manager also has another device listed as an error, the 1394 port of my Sound Blaster Audigy Card.

The properties of the 1394 Net Adapter states:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

This device used to be working perfectly before the new PCI Input Device was found, and oddly its name has changed. It used to be called "1394 Net Adapter", but now its name is "1394 Net Adapter #2" as if I took out the old one and added a new one.

Does anyone know what is going on? I haven't done anything to this computer and now these problems show up.

    Thanks
    Hank

Have you tried doing a System Restore?

Also before this happened did you go into the BIOS or get a message that the BIOS defualts had been loaded?

If it comes down to reinstalling drivers, do you have a Creative sound or a modem in your computer? Is it working? Is there anything that isn't working?

No, no BIOS changes. I have a Creative Blaster Audigy, which includes the firewire adapter. The sound is working, as is everything else.

I'd remove the 1394 device that has the error and then reinstall the latest Creative drivers from their website.

There's nothing actually connected to the 1394 Net Adapter at the moment.

I think there is a conflict between the 1395 Net Adapter and the new hardware found because if I uninstall the Net Adapter Windows tries to reinstall it but then says it cannot because the device failed to start.

I now have reason to believe that the new "PCI Input Device" and the "1394 Net Adapter" are the same device, somehow being listed twice which causes an error.

The reason why I believe this is because the PCI Input Device's properties says its location is PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 2, device 2, function 1). This is the same location as my Creative Sound Blaster Audigy, which is listed as PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 2, device 2, function 0). As you can see, they have the same location except that the function is different. This would make sense if the new "PCI Input Device" and the "1394 Net Adapter" were the same thing because the 1394 Net Adapter is integrated into the Audigy sound card.

Is there anyway to fix this error?
