I replaced the motherboard and cpu in my computer. The new board is Gigabyte. When I start up, it displays the bios screen and then goes to black with the insert proper boot device text. I go into the settings and try to make it boot to the SSD, but it is not working there either. I upgraded to windows 10 from 8.1 back when it was offered, and the bios setup seems to recognize it as 8. I don't want to mess with too much stuff, but even default settings doesn't help. How can I fix this mess?

How many drives are in that computer ? If more than one try each one as first boot device or try Windows Bootmanager first if it's present.

You may have problems with Windows 10 activation after changing the motherboard.

I actually had a HDD that wasn't plugged in for some reason, turns out it has my system on it! Plugged that in, and it's booting normally now. I guess it always pays to take a second look at everything. I'm just glad it was an easy fix.

It's easy to overlook simpler things like that when you're working inside a case. Glad you sorted it out. :)
