Hello, I just puchased a new (I think) computer. I paid to have XP Professional installed. The gentleman told me that I could not have possesion of the disk because Microsoft had a policy regarding copyright. I went to organize my favorites and there was a notation that Favorites was last Modified on 9-19-2002.
I didn't purchase this setup until 1-10-03... How can I tell if this is new or used equipment and or programs. Bless your hearts for being there. macada

    Hello Macada!

Exactly where did you buy your computer? This sounds suspicious to me. If you paid for it, it is yours. What if you have trouble in the future? How will you fix your XP without the disc?

You can wait for more advice here, as there are more people here that are smarter than I am about such things. But if I was you, I'd start asking questions to the persong that sold it to you.

Stick around here and meet some good people!:D

by that quote, It would lead me to believe that this is an illegal copy of WinXP, as far as you purchessing the product, it should come with disks. When you purchess WinXP you also own the disk that it comes on.
this could be when the folder was originally created by microsoft on the specific CD that was used, although the date should be earlier than that I would do some serious questioning of the person you bought this system from. This is starting to sound fishy.
You're welcome. Glad we can help you out.

    Welcome To TSG!

The disk should have came with the computer. It may have been an illegal copy that he used and if you ever need to reinstall it you will have problems.

Did you buy from an individual or a computer store?
