Finally graduated from Win98 to XP SP2. As I'm so used to reading my HJT from the old system, this one has so much stuff running that's slightly unfamiliar, and I don't want to get rid of anything I'm not sure of. Let me know if I need to trim excess fat. Thank you in advance. Oh, before I forget, the drive from my old computer was placed in this one with this much larger C drive, so I also have an "F" drive that's not very big.

Looks fine. (y) Is McAfee on 1 drive and AVG on the other?

Might be. I'm slowly moving things from "F" to "C", as the "F" has 2.87 GB left out of a total of 7.85 GB. The "C" has 67.8 GB left out of a total of 76.6 GB.

One thing that disturbs me, though. This processor is only 1.00 GHz with 160 MB of RAM. I compared it with my computer at work, which is 1.99 GHz and 504 MB of RAM. Can that be harmful? What suggestions would you have about that? I'll do anything I can to get the most out of this one (which was built for me).

160MB of RAM on an XP system. I'm surprised it runs at all. It was okay when you had 98. But now, that's extremely low. The minimum for XP is 256. I would definitely invest in more RAM. (y)

When I'm not so tired, I'm going to do the Windows Memory Diagnostic. Perhaps this weekend. My boyfriend will be visiting this Saturday and I will point this out to him. He's the one who gave this computer to me, and he's the one who should figure this out, I think! (Not as opposed to you guys, but as opposed to me ultimately figuring it out).

It does seem crazy, doesn't it?? I don't even remember what the other computer was RAM-wise (besides it being an HP Vectra that was networked), as my work was selling them to us for $70 when they got the new ones.

And thank you for your help thus far!
