    Your certain it's missing ?

Extract a new copy of Notepad from your CAB folders:

Click on START / RUN / SFC <type in

In the new window select 'extract file'
In that window type in notepad.exe
    Click start,

In the next window type in>
    RESTORE FROM: C:\windows\options\cabs
    SAVE FILE IN: C:\windows

    click ok,

You should see a message saying the file was successfully extracted ,

Now it should work for you,

    :)

    Ok,

Click start / programs / accessories / system tools / system information

Then click on 'TOOLS' , then open 'System File Checker'

Run the commands for restoring 'notepad.exe'

    .....are you using win95?

    :)

You should make sure your virus scanner is up to date removing/renaming Notepad is an attribute of one of the major virus (virii) out today....sorry can't be more specific I cant find my link for this or remember the exact virus

    Ok Arni,
    That's how you do it~!

Double check that virus suggestion that Jwbirdsong has, there could be a connection unless you know you specifically deleted notepad somehow.

    RavantVirus Scan
    Bitdefender Scan
    Trojan/Pest Scan
    TrojanScan

    Just For Reference:
    Alternatives for reinstalling Notepad:
Start / Settings / Control Panel
    Open 'add/remove programs'
click on 'windows setup' , click on 'accessories', click 'details' and put a check in 'notepad' - if it's found, click apply/ok,

    Notepad Downloads:
    Notepad Win 95
    Notepad Win 98
    Notepad Win ME
    Notepad XP
