Using WinME, MSI Mb, AMD 2.0 cpu. Added 256meg Kingston RAM for total 512meg RAM. The next week started having problems with AOL 8, then AOL locked up. Installed AOL 9. Continued having problems with dial up loop.
Uninstalled AOL 9 and 8. Installed AOL 7, continued having dial up loop. Could the new RAM be causing this problem. Called AOL 15 times. AOL system info says memory usage 100%. AOL says the RAM is full and something about the registry. How could the RAM be full if I'm using the same programs as before I added 256meg? Ran Spybot. Ran memtest. Using AVG and ZoneAlarm.

Are you having problems with anything but AOL?

If not, the best solution is to get rid of AOL. After installing and uninstalling several versions of AOL, there are quite likely pieces of each left on your system, possibly conflicting with each other. AOL is intrusive and problematic at best!

Took out 256m Ram, same problem. The mouse and computer response slowed down. Uninstalled every version of AOL from the computer. The take down was slower and at times would get a critical error. Boot up was slower. At times the mouse response would be normal. Ran HDD defrag and nothing changed. AOL keeps telling me same instructions to setup for dial up or reinstall AOL. Installed Compuserve, error detected at login. Has no web access. One of the CS system download files locked up.
I'm not sure if a system file is screwed up or if I have a virus. Spybot found nothing. Login to Juno works ok. Downloading a file on Juno locked up about 75% finished. Would you recommend I reformat C partition and reinstall WinME? Would the D partition be safe from loss? Or would it be safe to fdisk C partition?
40g HDD has C partition 30g, D partition 10g.

I doubt that the extra RAM had anything to do with your problem.

AOL is difficult to uninstall, and leaves bits of itself in your registry. After installing and uninstalling several AOL versions, you probably do have problems there. Compuserve isn't much better (owned by AOL).

I would recommend downloading and running HiJackThis, then posting the log file here. Someone more knowledgeable will be along to look for problems in your log file...
