Ok if I go properties, new, new wave format, I get this windows media player file and then because I don't know what to do with it I just delete it. Am I missing something, can it be used without installing some third party program.

Can you be a little more specific with your inf a little bit more would be excellent like the file name etc. The reason you can not delete it is it might be in use by the system.

Sorry, I will explain, I am making a list of hotkey commands that come with the properties button, for example
    properties button, w, f = new folder
    etc., and then I did
properties button, w, = new wave sound or new wordpad doc(it tabs between both)
and it struck me that I didn't know why I or anyone would ever need to make a new wave doc and perhaps I was missing something useful, hence my question.
